The newest member of the Bobcats, forward Adam Morrison, shared his thoughts on being selected with the third overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.
(On if he thought he’d end up in Charlotte) I had a little feeling with talking to my agent that Charlotte was a definite option. It wasn’t concrete, but I felt pretty good that when the pick came up, I had a good chance of being selected.
(On trades) I felt good about Charlotte all along. It was my first workout and my best workout. It just felt good from day one. I like the city, and obviously the organization is good. I am excited to be here.
(On visiting the city for workouts) I saw downtown. I didn’t see much, but it seemed quiet. I felt like it was laid back, which I am a big fan of.
(On fitting in with the Bobcats players) Hopefully I can fit in right away and help this team win. I’m going to do whatever it takes to help this team win. I’m looking forward to meeting those guys and getting to know them as teammates and as people.
(On his position) I am a two or a three. They are pretty interchangeable, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they want to do with me on the perimeter.
(On scoring ability and desire to step up in clutch situations) I’ve always had the notion of wanting to take the big shot. I love to have the ball in my hands late in the game. I think I proved that at Gonzaga this year and throughout my career. It’s just something that I’ve loved and relished. The bigger the game, the better I play. It’s always been fun that way.
(On crying at the NCAA Tournament game) From feedback I have gotten, people felt that it just showed that I cared. Obviously a lot of people have cried after games, so I’m glad that Michael Jordan viewed it as a positive.
(On the most exciting Bobcat he has seen) I think Emeka [Okafor] is exciting. I watched him play a lot when they made the national championship run. I’ve never seen a guy block so many shots. Playing with him and all the guys is just going to be fun. It’s going to be great to start at the bottom and earn my keep.
(On starting) I’m not sure. I don’t expect anything. The only thing I expect is that I am going to have to come every day with my hard hat on and get ready to play. I’m just thinking of what I can do to help this team.
