The Charlotte Bobcats and their Community Relations staff were presented the Community Partnership Award on October 13, 2011 at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina 2011 Super Hero Awards.

The Bobcats have an ongoing relationship with Second Harvest through programs such as “Dunk Hunger,” which encourages Bobcats fans and the community to donate canned goods and other non-perishable items for the Second Harvest Food Bank. In all, the Bobcats have donated over 160,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to Second Harvest and introduced a new backpack program to the Charlotte area that is responsible for distributing 1000’s of backpacks to needy children

"Always surround yourself with people that are smarter than you," Second Harvest Executive Director Kay Carter stated as a tribute to the sponsors partnerships that have helped them along the way. Senior Advisor of Community Relations Carl Scheer echoed that sentiment as he accepted the award on behalf of the Bobcats.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina has a regional distribution warehouse and other branches that supply and distribute goods to different charitable agencies that provide assistance for those in need. They not only serve the greater Charlotte area, but they also partner with nearly 650 agencies across 19 different counties to provide soup kitchens, emergency pantries, emergency shelters, low-income day cares, senior programs and group homes foe the community.

The Bobcats and Cats Care would like to say thank you to Second Harvest for this Community Partnership Award and look forward to continuing their relationship with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and the community as a whole.
