Each Bobcats/Sting Youth Basketball Network league nominated participants for the awards. Anyone nominated by their league was considered part of the YBN All-Star Team and received a certificate.
The finalists consisted of eight nominees for Player of the Year (Boy), four nominees for Player of the Year (Girl) and two nominees each for Coach of the Year, Official of the Year and Parent of the Year.
The 2005 winners were as follows:
Each of the finalists received a medal for their accomplishment, and the winner of each category was presented with a plaque. In addition to the plaque, Bobcats center Primoz Brezec will make a cash donation to each of the youth leagues from which a winner was selected.
At halftime of the Bobcats game against the Bulls, the finalists participated in the 2005 Youth Basketball Network All-Star Game. The contest consisted of two teams made up of the boys and girls finalists and coached by the two finalist coaches. The two finalist officials officiated the game and the two finalist parents each sat on a team’s bench.
The purpose of the Youth Basketball Network, sponsored by Gatorade and Presbyterian Hospital, is to provide the community with the resources of the Bobcats and Sting, in order to create a positive youth sports experience for young people in the community.
