This year's drive collected $39,626 and 1,810 turkeys, which will be split equally among relief agencies Community Food Rescue, Loaves & Fishes Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank before December 15, 2004.
The Street Turkeys effort was a two-day turkey and donation drive with anyone making a donation receiving a free Bobcats pennant. Before the Bobcats game against the World Champion Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, November 23, WFNZ’s "Primetime with the Packman Show" broadcast live outside the Charlotte Coliseum. Fans were encouraged to bring a turkey, check or non-perishable food item to be donated on their way into the game.
The following day, November 24, WFNZ's "Primetime with the Packman Show" broadcast live from the ADT Dog House in Charlotte. Fans had the opportunity to donate a turkey, check or non-perishable food item during the show’s live broadcast or earlier in the day. Bobcats players Keith Bogans, Jamal Sampson, Tamar Slay and Theron Smith, as well as team mascot Rufus Lynx were on hand to assist with the collection and sign autographs.
The Bobcats ($5,000) and US LEC ($20,000) started this year's efforts with a combined contribution of $25,000 to Street Turkeys.
Special thanks to anyone who donated for making the holiday season a little brighter for those less fortunate by giving an assist to Street Turkeys 2004.
