Bobcats Sports & Entertainment (BSE) President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield presented a donation worth $28,500 to Charlotte’s Community School of the Arts this morning on NBC’s Today Show. The donation includes a $20,000 gift card to Lowe’s Home Improvement, 300 tickets to a 2009-10 Bobcats home game, and the opportunity for some of the school’s students to perform the National Anthem before that game.

“We’re extraordinarily pleased to be able to help a quality organization like Community School of the Arts,” said Whitfield. “With a gift card to Lowe’s together we can build the kind of environment that enables students to grow and develop, and with the tickets and opportunity to sing the anthem we hope to provide these kids with the inspiration to dream and reach their maximum potential.”

The donation was made during a taped segment of the Today Show featuring national media personality Al Roker that will air locally Monday morning. Charlotte was the final stop on the show’s 8th annual “Lend a Hand” charitable outreach program that visits five cities across the country in five days. The show selects a different not-for-profit organization in each city to receive needed supplies and materials, and garners support from companies in each community to help with the donations.

BSE is committed to improving the quality of life across the region by focusing on the community pillars of literacy and education, fitness and recreation, and health and wellness through partnerships with companies like Lowe’s and organizations like Community School of the Arts.
