Literacy and Education
Through the creation of Reading and Technology Centers and Reading Corners, the Charlotte Bobcats provide “an assist” to one of Charlotte’s most important and significant community issues, educating the community’s children. With a focus on literacy and an overall love of learning, we hope to ensure that all kids are equipped to pursue their dreams and have fun and inspiring spaces to read and learn about the world.
Reading Timeouts are held at local elementary schools, YMCA’s, daycares and summer camps to encourage kids to develop a love of reading. Bobcats players, coaches, and staff participate in these interactive and fun reading events throughout the year.
Reading With Rufus is a reading program hosted by Charlotte Bobcats Mascot, Rufus Lynx. Schools can sign up to have Rufus visit their school for a reading assembly. To sign up to have Rufus visit your school, click here.
The Cool School Field Trip is an annual educational outing for area middle school students. Students from area middle schools are invited to attend a preseason game free of charge; throughout the game, students are involved with educationally-themed contests and activities. In order to participate in Cool School, students are required to demonstrate strong academic performance and commendable character.
