Offseason Workout Video | Season in Review | Season in Review Video | Other Workouts
With Charlotte’s 2008 Training Camp on the horizon, the players can’t wait to get things going as the franchise enters its fifth season, and first under new Head Coach Larry Brown. Over the course of the summer, the Bobcats commitment to improving has been evident at Time Warner Cable Arena, with all 14 players under contract having been seen in the weight room and out on the practice court getting a workout in. Through it all, bobcats.com has been there catching up with the players as they prepare to head to Wilmington, NC, on September 29 for training camp.
Here is what Matt Carroll had to say about the commitment he's seen from his teammates and his goals for 2008-09.
bobcats.com:Talk to us about the upcoming season.
Carroll: I’m just looking forward to this season starting. We’ve been in here working hard for the last couple of months. It’s only about a month away until training camp starts, so I’m just trying to get in the best shape I can right now and get ready to go.
bobcats.com: Talk about the commitment level that you’ve seen from these guys since they’ve come back from Vegas, some of the new guys and some of the veterans coming in and working out.
Carroll: I’m excited about the work everybody else has been putting in. Adam (Morrison) and I have been working out here everyday. His knee looks really good. J-Rich (Jason Richardson) is always in here busting his butt and the young fellows are starting to come in now. There have just been a lot of guys around. Nazr’s (Mohammed) been in. A lot of guys are really looking forward to getting the season going.
bobcats.com: You mentioned Adam (Morrison). A lot of people out there are wondering how he’s doing and how he’s looking. From what we’re seeing he looks good, but like you said, you’re the guy who has been working out with him. What are you seeing from him?
Carroll: Adam looks like Adam. He doesn’t look any different than he did his rookie year here. I’m excited for him because I know how hard he’s been working and rehabbing to get back. Just to see him moving around and having some shooting battles is a lot of fun for me too.
bobcats.com: Talk to us about what you are trying to do to improve this offseason.
Carroll: Just everything, just my all around game. Obviously, I’m shooting the ball everyday because that’s what I do, but I’m just trying to work on some other aspects of my game, work on putting the ball on the floor and creating some shots myself and just other things like that.
bobcats.com: We’ve heard with Coach Larry Brown coming in that Coach Larry Brown doesn’t want guys to use training camp to get in shape, he wants them to be in shape. Was it that much more important for you guys to start working out early?
Carroll: I think we were going to be in shape anyways, but I think after hearing what Coach Brown said about we have to be ready to go and how serious camp is. We know that. We have some guys who have been around, some experienced veterans and we’re going to be in the best shape we can and then, after training camp, we are probably going to be in the best shape of our lives.
bobcats.com This team is turning the corner from being a young team to becoming more of a veteran team. Guys have got more years under their belt, you included. Does that mean your expectations are a little bit higher for this season?
Carroll: Absolutely. I think that every year the Bobcats have been here, we’ve tried to set the goal a little bit higher and I think this year we are going to move it up again. Obviously our goal is to make it to the playoffs, so we are going to do everything we can to do that.
