Herb Brown brings 40 years
experience to the Bobcats.
The Charlotte Bobcats today named Herb Brown as an assistant coach, joining Jeff Capel, Phil Ford and Dave Hanners on the staff of Head Coach Larry Brown.

Herb Brown reunites with his brother for a third time, having previously joined him on the bench in both Detroit and Philadelphia, where the brothers led their teams to the 2004 NBA Championship and 2001 Eastern Conference Championship, respectively. Brown, who brings over 40 years of experience to the Bobcats, spent the last four seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. He was head coach of the Pistons from 1976-78, leading Detroit to back-to-back playoff appearances, and has served as an assistant with the Houston, Phoenix, Indiana, Chicago and Portland, in addition to the Pistons, 76ers and Hawks.

Brown’s coaching experience also includes time in the International Basketball League, Western Basketball Association and Continental Basketball Association, winning CBA Coach of the Year honors in 1984. Internationally, he has coached in the European Professional Basketball League, where he won a title in 1975, and 15 summers in the Puerto Rico Basketball League, where his teams went to the playoffs each year and won a championship in 1984. He also coached in Spain for six seasons and led Team USA to a gold and two bronze medals in the Maccabiah Games in Israel, including a bronze in 2005.

The author of three books about basketball, Brown is a frequent participant in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program, as well as Peace Players International and the Friendship Games.

Herb Brown is not only a great basketball coach, but also brings class and character. The Atlanta Hawks were foolish to let him go. The Bobcats are incredibly fortunate to have him on their staff.

i like the addition of herb brown. he has experience, he has won a championship, and he is well traveled. this guy could be a head coach.

Herb Brown is a great addition to the Bobcats coaching staff. I have had the pleasure of watching Herb coach the Atlanta Hawks for the past 4 years, and as a Hawks fan, I feel we have lost an essential component of our team. Now I think I will have to become a bit of a Bobcats fan, because you now have my families favorite coach in the NBA on your team.  Get ready to win Bobcats !

Having brothers reunited for a third time i think is a great move on the bobcats part. they have a lot of chemistry and will continue their dominence

Herb is a great guy and you won't find too many coaches with the passion and love of the game that he has. Atlanta's loss..and the Bobcats win big.
