Charlotte Bobcats President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield announced the Bobcats new broadcasting teams for the 2007-08 season on Friday, highlighted by 36-year broadcast veteran Steve Martin.
“We are very fortunate to have one of the most respected and experienced sports broadcasters transition into a new role as our television play-by-play announcer,” Whitfield said. “Martin has been an integral part of Charlotte’s sports broadcasting community for many years. That longevity, coupled with his wealth of experience and depth of NBA knowledge, makes him the ideal talent to lead our Bobcats television broadcast team.”
Martin returns to the booth after spending three seasons calling Bobcats games on the radio. Before returning to Charlotte to join the Bobcats prior to their inaugural season, Martin served as radio play-by-play announcer for the Charlotte and New Orleans Hornets before moving into the team’s television booth.
Joining Martin on Bobcats telecast will be Henry Williams and Stephanie Ready. Williams spent last season in a dual role as the Bobcats radio and television analyst. He will begin his first full season as color commentator, while Ready enters her fourth season as sideline reporter. This past offseason, Ready worked the sidelines for TNT’s coverage of the NBA playoffs.
With Martin’s move to the television booth, Scott Lauer will now take over play-by-play responsibilities of the Bobcats radio broadcast. Lauer has been part of the Bobcats radio broadcast team since its inception.
