The Charlotte Bobcats held their annual Bobcats Fantasy Camp on July 11, 2012 at Time Warner Cable Arena. This year’s camp marks the fourth year the Bobcats have hosted the event. Learning fundamentals are essential for any athlete to play basketball, and what better teacher to have than an NBA team?

Bobcats President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield opened the camp by speaking to the participants about the importance of working hard and continuing to practice the fundamentals they will learn at camp.

“You’re not going to wake up and become a great player”, said Whitfield, “but if you go home and work on these fundamentals, you have a great chance to become a much better player before your season starts.”

Bobcats Fantasy Campers navigated through seven skill stations, including; dribbling, shooting, one-on-one offense, individual defense, passing and an all-encompassing skills challenge, which tested the campers’ all-around abilities.

Great basketball minds including, North Carolina’s most winningest high school basketball coach, Freddy Johnson, former professional basketball player Dell Curry, University of North Carolina Women’s basketball Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell, and Bobcats veteran guard Matt Carroll provided hands-on instruction in the drills.

“I think this event is very important,” said Matt Carroll “To have everyone who supports this organization come out to this camp is a great way for us to show our appreciation.”

Each camper was issued a Jordan Brand book bag along with Jordan Brand basketball shorts and T-shirts.

At the conclusion of the camp, participants had a rare opportunity to hear Bobcats Chairman and NBA Legend Michael Jordan speak and answer their questions.

One of the funniest moments in camp occurred when a young camper asked Jordan who he thinks the best player on the Bobcats is. After seconds of laughter filled the gym, Jordan responded by saying “Ask your parents who they think their best child is,” Jordan chuckled, “I love them all.”
