As a freshman in 2006-07, he was named Second Team All-Big 12 and a consensus Freshman All-American, after leading the Big 12 and ranking fourth nationally in assists (6.7 per game).
A 7-0 center, Ajinca spent the last two seasons playing professionally in his native country of France. He made his professional debut in 2006-07 with Pau-Orthez of the French ProA League before moving to Hyeres-Toulon in 2007-08. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game in 24 games played for Hyeres-Toulon, while shooting .538 from the field and .825 from the free throw line. Ajinca was a member of the French National Teams that won the Bronze Medal at the 2007 Under-19 World Championship and the Gold Medal at the 2006 Under-18 European Championship.
