Mocking the 2011 NBA Draft

Update: June 21, 2011

As of 5 p.m. today, we've closed the polls. With the 2011 NBA Draft just two hours away, all 16 mocks we've been following made changes, so we've locked them in
and added three of our own from myself (bobcats.com's Matt Rochinski), Bobcats Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Scott Lauer and bobcats.com intern Ben Swanson.
Please note - in no way are our picks representative of the organization's views. We're just three guys taking a shot at this.

So what are the biggest changes? While picks 1-4 remain consistent in our Consensus Mock Draft, Jonas Valanciunas has jumped all the way to No. 5 - up three spots.
Kemba Walker is down three spots to No. 8 in our consensus lottery, while Bismack Biyombo jumped four spots to No. 10. There's a new face in the consensus lottery,
with Chris Singleton making his first appearance at No. 13. That means Alec Burks is out, falling six spots to No. 15 overall.

The biggest jump in the final Consensus Mock Draft was made by Iman Shumpert, who vaulted nine spots to No. 23. The largest drop came from Darius Morris who fell
seven spots to No. 33.

So who's coming to Charlotte? The Consensus Mock Draft now says it will be Tristan Thompson at No. 9, Donatas Motiejunas at No. 19 and Shelvin Mack at No. 39.

The 2011 NBA Draft takes place on June 23 and Bobcats fans will be watching anxiously as Charlotte has two first round picks this year. Overall, the Bobcats will pick
at No. 9, 19 and 39 as they look to fill out their roster. We'll be keeping our eye on multiple mock drafts around the web leading up to the draft to give you an idea who
the experts are saying will be available at Charlotte's picks. We've only followed the top 39 in mocks, so a player not in the top 39 picks gets a score of 40 on our board,
and in the case of a mock draft with only one round, players not in the top 30 get a total score of 31. Click the name of each mock draft to sort that particular mock and
click total rankings to get back to the consensus mock ranks.

Update: June 21, 2011

We made our last mock updates entering the weekend and with only two days remaining, it seems that some mocks are updating themselves on an hourly
basis just so they can say at one point they got it right. We're putting a freeze to it for now and locking them in until Thursday, when the folks here at
bobcats.com will also provide their mocks (that have absolutely zero support from the Bobcats organization and are just a hunch on our parts).

What we've seen in the past few days is some movement within the lottery itself from picks 9-14, where Alec Burks has jumped back up to the No. 9 spot,
Tristan Thompson has leapt three spots to No. 10 followed by Jimmer Fredette (11), Marcus Morris (12), Klay Thompson (13) and Bismack Biyombo -
who has dropped the most of the Mock Consensus Lottery picks, down five spots to No. 14 overall.

Aside from Biyombo's slide, the biggest changes we've seen have come from Iman Shumpert, who is up six spots to No. 32 overall and Chandler Parsons,
who is up four spots and is slated to go to the Bobcats at No. 39. Speaking of Charlotte, for the first time since we've been putting the consensus
mock together this year, there's a new No. 19 slated for the Bobcats pick. Marshon Brooks is in at 19 and Kenneth Faried falls to 20. That puts Charlotte on
Burks (9), Brooks (19) and Parsons (39) in the Consensus Mock, but don't expect the Bobcats to take two shooting guards with their first two picks.

 

Update: June 17, 2011

With the NBA Draft coming up in less than one week things are starting to get really exciting on the mock dratfs, with more chages being made. Two major
jumps in this update. First off, welcome Klay Thompson to the list for the first time and Jimmer Frudette jumping up four spots to the highest slot he has
been up to this point be tied in the No. 10 spot with Marcus Morris.

In the last update Donatas Motiejunas just fell out of the lottery and he is down two more spots after the last update, while Alec Burks dropeed three spots
going from No. 9 to No. 12.

As for the Bobcats, Bismack Biyombo moves into the No. 9 spot in the consensus mock, while Kenneth Faried remains at No. 19 and Iman Shumpert remains
slotted at No. 39.

Update: June 10, 2011

With less than two weeks until the NBA Draft, we expect the updates to be coming fast and furious in mock drafts around the web and will be doing our best to
keep you posted. Since our update earlier this week, we've seen changes in seven of the mocks we're following, including the first appearance of someone other
than Kyrie Irving in the No. 1 spot... and it's not Derrick Williams. NBADraft.net has Enes Kanter going No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Are they crazy?
Or do they just know something the rest of us don't? Seeing as how they've pulled Jonas Valanciunas from their mock draft entirely, I'm leaning towards crazy.

Other than picks No. 1 and 2 in our consensus mock draft, no picks 3-16 remain the same as prospects jockey for position. Jordan Hamilton made the biggest
jump and is back in the lottery at No. 13. That means for the first time this offseason, Donatas Motiejunas is out of the lottery, as he's slipped two spots to
No. 15. Klay Thompson is on his heels after moving up two spots to No. 16.

As for the Bobcats, Alec Burks is up one spot and back to No. 9 in the consensus mock, while Kenneth Faried remains at No. 19 and Iman Shumpert remains
slotted at No. 39.


Update: June 6, 2011

It was a short stay for Jordan Hamilton in the lottery of our consensus mock draft. After moving into the No. 13 spot on June 1, he's back out as he falls to No. 15.
That means Jimmer Fredette is back in and jumps two spots to No. 13. Credit The Hoops Report for Jimmer's move - they've got him going No. 7 overall now.

Not a whole lot of movement other than that. Bismack Biyombo is now the consensus pick to go No. 9 to the Bobcats, while Kenneth Faried remains at No. 19.
Interesting to note that nine of the 10 players ranked 15-24 (15. Hamilton, 16. Chris Singleton, 17. Markieff Morris, 18. Klay Thompson, 19. Faried,
20. Tobias Harris, 21. Tyler Honeycutt, 22. Josh Selby and 24. Nikola Vucevic) all worked out in Charlotte over the past five days, and the other (23. Marshon Brooks)
was here but could not work out due to an ankle injury.

Iman Shumpert made the biggest jump of anyone in our mock and is now up six spots to the Bobcats No. 39 spot. The biggest fall belongs to Nolan Smith,
who tumbled five spots and is now down at No. 33.


Update: June 1, 2011

This week NBA teams will be bringing in NBA Draft prospects in for scouting before the draft on June 23. As they start taking a more in-depth look at players,
the experts continue to tweak their mock drafts, with nine mock drafts updated this time around.

A little has been altered since our last update, with the lottery unchanged, though Kyrie Irving is no longer the unanimous top pick, with one mock taking
him second overall. Donatas Motiejunas has also fallen two spots to No. 14. Marshon Brooks once again rises up the draft board, but there aren't as
many major jumps as past updates.

Since our last update, nothing has changed as far as the analysts' consensus picks for the Bobcats. At the No. 9 overall pick, most expect the Bobcats to
draft Alec Burks, the guard out of Colorado. At No. 19, the experts estimate the Bobcats to draft Kenneth Faried, power forward from Morehead State.
With the No. 39 overall pick, the consensus is that Charlotte will take UCLA guard Malcolm Lee.


Update: May 27, 2011

As NBA teams begin to bring in draft prospects for organized workouts, NBA scouts are beginning to adjust accordingly and we've added three more mock drafts
in our latest update.

The biggest changes are Jonas Valanciunas rising two spots and Jordan Hamilton knocking Jimmer Fredette out of the lottery. Marshon Brooks and Nikola Mirotic
continue to impress, shown in their still-hot draft stocks.

Just like the last update, Nikola Vucevic again had the biggest jump, this time rising eight spots to No. 27 after rising up ten spots the last update.

Charlotte's No. 9 projection remains with Alec Burks, while Kenneth Faried is firm at No. 19 pick. Then Malcolm Lee or Shelvin Mack are projected to finish out
our draft picks at No. 39.

Update: May 23, 2011

Now that the NBA Draft Combine has wrapped up in Chicago, we've seen changes to six of the mock drafts we're following and have added two more, as NBA.com gets in
the mix with mocks from David Aldridge and Scott Howard-Cooper. How much does that change things? Honestly, not much, as our 14 projected lottery picks remain the
same with just a little movement.

Jonas Valanciunas and Jan Vessely have swapped spots at No. 7 and 8, respectively, while Donatas Motiejunas is back up to No. 12. That knocks Marcus Morris down to
No. 13 and rounds out the lottery with Jimmer Fredette at No. 14.

This week's biggest climber goes to Nikola Vucevic, who has leapt 10 spots to No. 35 overall. Other big movers include JuJuan Johnson (+5 to No. 29) and
Jimmy Butler (+9 to No. 41).

Charlotte's No. 9 projection remains with Alec Burks, while Chris Singleton and Kenneth Faried are now tied at No. 18, closest to our 19th pick. The 39th spot is up
for grabs as well, with Charles Jenkins and Shelvin Mack tied at No. 38.



Update: May 19, 2011

It's official - the NBA Lottery is over and the Bobcats will be selecting at 9, 19 and 39 in this year's draft. All 11 mock drafts changed since the ping pong balls helped
determine the draft order on Wednesday with some interesting results.

For the first time this offseason, we've got a unanimous No. 1, as all 11 mocks are projecting Kyrie Irving to go in the top spot. Derrick Williams remains at No. 2
but Enes Kanter has closed the gap a bit, with two mocks saying he will go as early as No. 2.

Kawhi Leonard continues to climb, jumping three spots for our second-straight update and is now up to No. 6 overall. The lottery's fastest faller? Donatas Motiejunas
is in danger of falling out of the lottery, having dropped four spots to No. 14 overall.

As for the Bobcats picks - our consensus places Alec Burks at No. 9, Klay Thompson at No. 19 and Chandler Parsons at No. 39.

Update: May 13, 2011

Following our last update yesterday, we received some feedback on our twitter account asking us to add The Sporting News' mock draft to our list, so we've complied.
While doing so, we also noticed changes in five of the mocks today. Guess there's no better time than the weekend to make your updates, so we're doing another one
less that 24 hours after our last one.

One thing we've noticed is that Kawhi Leonard appears to be shooting up mock draft boards the fastest at this point. He jumped three spots to No. 9 overall and
three mocks now have him going as high as the fourth pick. As testament to the uncertainty at the top after Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams as No. 1 and 2 in
some order, there have been nine different players mocked as either the No. 3 or No. 4 picks. That's going to make draft workouts in June very interesting.

On a side note, thanks to NBADraft.net for finally putting Jonas Valanciunas into your top 39 picks. Changing his projection from pick 40 to 6 in their draft also
helped move him up three spots to No. 6 overall in our consensus mock.

Update: May 12, 2011

Most of the mock drafts have caught up now that the list of players who withdrew their names is official and it's shown in our consensus mock draft. You'll notice
a new mock as we've added NBADraft.net's Fan Consensus Mock Draft - with over 1,000 NBA fans having participated in it already. We've also pulled NBA Draft
Depot since they hadn't made an update since April 14.

So where do things stand? The lottery projections remain the same with movement in the 7-10 spots where Alec Burks jumped two spots to No.7, followed by
Donatas Motiejunas up two to No. 8, Jonas Valanciunas down one spot to No. 9 and Bismack Biyombo falling three places to No. 10. Biyombo's move was the biggest
among our Top 30, along with Trey Thompkins jumping three spots to a tie for 20th with Chris Singleton.

Update: May 9, 2011

One potential lottery pick, Kentucky's Terrence Jones, removed his name from the 2011 NBA Draft at the withdraw deadline and is heading back to school.

That means a change in many of the 10 mock drafts we've been following, with six already having pulled Jones from their projections. The beneficiary of Jones
withdrawl appears to be Jimmer Fredette, who moves back into our consensus lottery at No. 14.

Update: May 6, 2011

There's been quite a bit of movement in our consensus mock drafts the past few days with seven of the 10 we're following updating their projections.

The biggest mover in the projected lottery is Bismack Biyombo who jumps three spots to No. 6 overall with only three mocks having him fall past No. 7 overall.
Tristan Thompson also continues to climb, now up two spots to No. 11 as three mocks now have him going in the Top 10.

Only one player has fallen out of the consensus lottery, as Marcus Morris has replaced Jimmer Fredette at No. 14. Fredette drops two spots to No. 16.

Outside the lottery, keep an eye on Tobias Harris (No. 19), Nikola Mirotic (No. 23), Reggie Jackson (No. 25) and Lucas Nogueira (No. 27),
who have all moved up two spots late in the first round.

The consensus mock has Bismack Biyombo (9), Kenneth Faried (19) and Iman Shumpert and Nikola Vucevic (tied at 38) projected to go around Charlotte's spots.
