Charlotte Bobcats guard Stephen Jackson today was selected by the NBA as Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 17. The honor is Jackson’s second, joining his previous award for Western Conference Player of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2007. Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony received the Western Conference award this week.
Jackson’s week included a career-high and franchise-record 43 points on Tuesday, as well as the 10,000th point of his NBA career on Saturday. He averaged 29.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.3 steals and shot .604 from the field (32-53), .529 from beyond the three-point line (9-17) and .750 from the free-throw line (15-20) as the Bobcats defeated Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix for a perfect 3-0 week.
Jackson scored 43 points in Tuesday’s 102-94 win over Houston, topping his previous career high of 42 and the previous franchise record of 42. He added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in the game. Jackson scored 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats completed their comeback from a 13-point first-half deficit.
Jackson followed that up with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in Friday’s 92-76 win over San Antonio. On Saturday, Jackson scored the 10,000th point of his NBA career as he recorded 29 points, eight assists, five rebounds and a season-high-tying five steals in Charlotte’s 125-99 win over Phoenix.
On the season, Jackson is averaging 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 38.5 minutes per game. He ranks 20th in the NBA in scoring, ninth in steals and 11th in minutes played. Since joining the Bobcats on Nov. 16, Jackson is averaging 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 40.1 minutes per game. He has scored in double figures in all 30 games since coming to Charlotte, including 17 games of 20 points or more.
Jackson becomes the second Bobcats player to be named Eastern Conference Player of the Week this season, joining teammate Gerald Wallace, who won the award for the week ending November 29.
