Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins today announced that the team has signed Andre Brown, Donell Taylor and Marcus Williams. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. The team now has 17 players under contract entering training camp, which begins on Tuesday, September 30, the first of six straight days at UNC Wilmington’s Trask Coliseum.
Brown (6-9, 245 pounds) is a two-year NBA veteran who has played 71 career games for Seattle and Memphis with career averages of 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 7.8 minutes. Last season in Memphis, he saw action in 33 games and averaged 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 8.6 minutes. Taylor (6-5, 193 pounds) appeared in 98 career NBA games with Washington from 2005-07 after being signed on Aug. 16, 2005 as an undrafted rookie. He spent the 2007-08 season in Greece and Belgium. Williams (6-7, 207 pounds) was drafted by San Antonio in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft (33rd overall). He was waived prior to the start of the season and re-signed on Dec. 26, but appeared in only one game before being waived again three days later. Williams was signed by the L.A. Clippers on March 28 for the remainder of the season.
Higgins also announced additions to the basketball operations staff, including LaSalle Thompson, who now moves to full-time assistant coach on Larry Brown’s staff, from his previous role as strength and conditioning coach. Former NBA standout Dell Curry returns to the organization in a full-time capacity as the Director of Player Development, a position he held in the team’s first three seasons. Michael Irr joins the Bobcats as the new strength and conditioning coach after spending the last two seasons in Chicago as assistant strength and conditioning coach.
