Mocking The 2007 NBA Draft
The 2007 NBA Draft will take place on June 28 in New York. The Bobcats hold two first round picks (No. 8 and 22) in this year's draft, so a lot could happen in the next few hours and bobcatsbasketball.com is keeping you posted on mock drafts on the web leading up to the big event. The following are the consensus lottery picks (and No. 22 pick) of 18 mock drafts from around the web, followed by the complete first round mock drafts we've come across already.
Update (06.28): The 2007 NBA Draft is less than 24 hours away and rumors are flying all over the Internet about who is drafting who, what picks are going where and which players might be changing uniforms soon. We’ve updated 10 of the 18 mock drafts we’ve been following, so make sure to check them out before the draft kicks off tonight.
As far as the changes we’ve seen, Mike Conley Jr. continues his climb up the mock draft lists and is now slated to go fourth overall, while Brandan Wright continues his slide and has now dropped to fifth. In the lottery, Joakim Noah (eighth) and Al Thorton (11th) have also jumped up one spot, and Jeff Green (ninth) and Julian Wright (12th) are slipping.
The biggest change has come with Wilson Chandler, who has now leapfrogged five spots up to No. 28 and is projected to go late in the first round.
At No. 22, the Bobcats are now projected to select 6-6, 172-pound shooting guard Rudy Fernandez from Spain, with Sean Williams jumping up to No. 20 and Derrick Byars falling to No. 23.
Who will the Bobcats take? Stay tuned to bobcatsbasketball.com as we update you on draft night.
Update (06.21): With the NBA Draft now one week away, changes are coming fast and furious in mock drafts around the web. Since our last update four days ago, 10 of the mock drafts have had massive overhauls, and we've also added three more mocks to bring our total to 18 now.
So where are the changes taking place? Well, while the14 players projected to go in the lottery remain the same, eight of the players in those picks have moved their average position. Al Horford, Mike Conley Jr., Jeff Green and Spencer Hawes have all moved up at least one spot, with Conley making the biggest jump in the lottery, moving from seventh overall to fifth. Meanwhile, Brandan Wright, Yi Jianlian, Joakim Noah and Julian Wright have all slid at least one position, with Yi the only one falling two spots from fifth to seventh.
The Bobcats projected picks have also changed according to the 18 mocks. Green moves in at No. 8, bumping Noah from the spot he's held since we first started compiling all the mock drafts. At No. 22, Charlotte is now projected to be targeting Sean Williams, as Derrick Byars has moved up one spot to No. 21.
Update (06.17): It's been 12 days since we updated the 15 mock drafts around the web, and 10 of the mock drafts have changed since then. Much of that change has taken place in the latter part of the first round, where it is difficult to find much agreement on who will go where at the June 28 NBA Draft. The 15 mocks combine to have a total of 45 different players taken in the first 30 picks, perhaps showing just how deep this draft will be.
Despite all the changes, there hasn't been much movement at the top with the top 14 picks in the overall mock draft remaining the same, and the only change seeing Jeff Green move into the No. 9 spot and Julian Wright falling back a spot to No. 10 overall. FanBall.com has finally given in and moved Greg Oden to the top spot, meaning all 15 drafts now have Oden and Kevin Durant going one-two in the draft.
Thaddeus Young, who was in Charlotte to work out with Corey Brewer and Al Thorton on Wednesday, is moving up many draft boards, and at No. 15, is just one spot outside of being a potential lottery pick.
The biggest surprise in the past two weeks? How about Sean Deveney of The Sporting News dropping Joakim Noah 10 spots from No. 7 to No. 17 overall in is latest mock draft. Still, Noah remains slotted at the Bobcats No. 8 pick in the compilation of the 15 drafts.
Update (06.05): With the NBA Pre-Draft Camp over and Ante Tomic's withdrawl from the draft on Sunday due to a dispute with his Croatian team, we had to make some changes to our overall mock draft predictions. In all, four mocks have been updated in the past two days. The Bobcats are still projected to have Joakim Noah fall to them at No. 8, and the only shakeup in the lottery picks was Corey Brewer moving to No. 6 overall and Mike Conley Jr. falling to No. 7 overall. Conley slipped from No. 3 to No. 6 in the ESPN mock and fell from No. 7 to No. 11 on CollegeHoops.net and NBADraft.net, allowing Brewer to leapfrog him.
With Tomic now out of the draft, Derrick Byars has returned to the No. 22 spot for the Bobcats, but Marco Belinelli and Morris Almond are also making a charge.
Sidenote: Draft Express.com finally gave in and moved Greg Oden to the top spot in place of Kevin Durant. The folks at FanBall.com are now the only ones in our pool of 15 mock drafts that have Durant going ahead of Oden.
Update (06.03): We've added three new mock drafts to the list from The Sporting News, NBC Sports and Fanball.com, as well as updated five of the mock drafts, and surprisingly there has been no change in the potential lottery picks. The first 14 slots have held true to form, with the Bobcats still slated to grab Joakim Noah. The biggest change for Charlotte is that Ante Tomic, the 7-2 center from Croatia, has replaced Derrick Byars at the No. 22 spot.
