Elementary schools throughout Oregon and southwest Washington are given the chance each year to participate in the Trail Blazers Read to Achieve Challenge. In partnership with Burger King and Toyota, the program is designed to offer different levels of achievement for students, classrooms and entire student bodies. The goal of the program is to help enhance literacy efforts in schools and encourage students to reach their reading goals. Elementary and middle schools are given goals for students to read that could earn them a free ticket to a game during March, the Trail Blazers Reading Month, in addition to the opportunity to win a classroom visit, school assembly, player appearance, and more. The Trail Blazers are committed to help teachers and parents make it better by encouraging literacy in our communities.

The book drive runs now through April 30. Fans can donate new books to any of eleven participating Toyota dealerships (listed below), the Trail Blazers front office or at the season ticket holder booth of the Rose Garden during Trail Blazers home games. Burger King is giving away free Whopper vouchers to fans who donate new books.

Read to Achieve is a national NBA Cares initiative with a strong presence in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Trail Blazers / Toyota Read To Achieve Challenge materials are distributed to 70,000 students in school districts throughout the area. Students are asked to set reading goals and receive a free ticket to a Trail Blazers game when they reach their goals.

In all, nine Trail Blazers players are set to appear at five different Read to Achieve events throughout the month of March.
