Trail Blazers Expand Viewing Options for Games; Increase Access for Fans Across the State Through Live Streaming
The Trail Blazers announced today that every locally-broadcasted game airing on Comcast SportsNet Northwest (CSN) will be accessible via television or Internet to fans throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. In addition, the team will continue to stream every game broadcasted on KGW.
“Our goal all along has been to provide access to Trail Blazers games for all of our fans,” said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. “Today’s announcement is another important step toward achieving that goal, while we continue to work with CSN to achieve our mutual goal of expanding its distribution base.
"Through our work with both the NBA and CSN there are now two viewing options for CSN games that will be available to our fan base: television on CSN and live streaming in certain areas outside of CSN's coverage area. We appreciate the patience our fans have shown with us in our efforts to provide greater accessibility."
Fans that live where CSN is unavailable within the NBA-approved Trail Blazers territory will have the option to stream games live on trailblazers.com beginning Sunday, Jan. 1, when the Trail Blazers visit the Los Angeles Clippers. The six locally broadcasted games between Jan. 1 and Jan. 11 will be available on a free trial basis. Starting Friday, Jan. 13 at San Antonio, fans will have the option to purchase games à la carte for $2.99/game, or select the remaining 53 games during the 2011-12 season as a package for $69.99.
Although CSN is available to all TVproviders serving the Trail Blazers television territory, certain providers, including DirecTV, Dish Network and Charter Communications, have opted not to carry the network.
Fans outside of the Trail Blazers' TV territory can continue to purchase NBA League Pass, which offers televised and streaming access (including mobile) for $169. There are also options for streaming-only or mobile-only. Details and pricing plans are listed on the NBA's website.
To find out which option is available in their area, fans need to visit trailblazers.com and enter their zip code. Additionally, fans can read an FAQ, including system requirements, and sign-up for the streaming service by visiting trailblazers.com. The Trail Blazers have partnered with RayV to provide the streaming platform.
Portland became the first NBA team to stream games when they made 21 KGW-broadcasted games available during the 2009-10 season (including playoffs). With today's announcement, the Trail Blazers join the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls as the first NBA teams to stream cable games. Last season the team also streamed 21 KGW games (including playoffs).

Fans can purchase the entire 60-game package for $69.99, or purchase on a game-by-game basis for only $2.99 per game. The games from 12/26/11-1/11/12 will be offered during a free trial. The game on 1/13/12 vs San Antonio Spurs will be the first game that will require a payment to watch.

Yes. We have formed a partnership with a company called RayV to handle the video streaming and e-commerce. RayV will offer a high-quality, high definition stream. The company, a leader in streaming sporting events, has an impressive client list that includes NBA League Pass (Europe) and Fox Soccer Channel.

Single game: Fans wanting to purchase on a game-by-game basis can register any time on the day of the game. Prior to registration, you are encouraged to review technical specifications to ensure your computer is properly equipped to receive the stream.

What are the technical specifications?
In order to receive a high-definition broadcast, you need a broadband connection, such as DSL or Cable, with a download rate of at least 4Mbps. Viewing in standard definition requires a download rate of at least 1.5Mbps. To view what your rates are, please visit: http://speedtest.net to see if you have a fast enough connection.

Does everyone have access to the games online?
Because of NBA streaming requirements, the Trail Blazers are only allowed to stream the games within our League Approved territory, which includes select zip codes in Oregon and Washington.
Will the games be archived so I can watch them on demand?
No. Unfortunately, the NBA has not yet approved teams to offer video on demand services.
Can I watch the game on my mobile phone?
No. A mobile app is under development, but is not available at this time.
How will watching online be any different than watching the TV broadcast?
The opportunity to stream online opens up many new opportunities to present the game and the conversation around the game. The Webcast will feature a simulcast of the television broadcast, augmented by real-time stats, live blog commentary, fan feedback and more.
Can more than one person watch with my login?
No, this is what's known as a single seat license. When purchasing an account, only one person can watch the stream at a time using that purchased login.
