Preview: Portland vs. Philadelphia

It might have seemed unthinkable earlier this season, but the Philadelphia 76ers have a chance to extend a win streak as they resume their longest road trip in 2014-15.

The 76ers, though, will have to get past one of the league's top teams, the Portland Trail Blazers, as they attempt to stay unbeaten on their trek Friday night.

Philadelphia was hoping to earn one victory for much of this season after opening with a franchise-worst 17 consecutive losses and nearly matching the worst start in league history. The 76ers have won four of 10 since snapping that lengthy drought Dec. 3, earning all of those victories on the road.

Philadelphia (4-23) gave up its second-fewest points this season while rallying for a 91-87 victory over Miami on Tuesday, its second of seven consecutive road contests. The 76ers, who had only eight players available, trailed by 23 points with less than eight minutes left in the third quarter before outscoring the Heat 45-18 the rest of the way, yielding just nine points in the final period.

"It gives us a lot of confidence," Carter-Williams told the team's official website after providing 20 points and a season-high six steals. "We know on the road all we've got it each other. So we go out there and play together and play with pride, with everyone talking, and we never give up."

Philadelphia's longest win streak last season was four games from Dec. 29-Jan. 4, which took place entirely on the road and was capped by a 101-99 victory over Portland.

The 76ers snapped a three-game losing streak in that city with that win but suffered their fifth loss in the last seven overall matchups Nov. 24. Philadelphia shot 50.0 percent in that 114-104 defeat but went 0 for 8 from 3-point range and was outrebounded 52-29 while getting outscored 25-12 on second-chance points.

LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 33 points and 11 rebounds while Carter-Williams had 24 points, which is also his season high.

The Blazers (23-7) enter this game having won six of seven. Damian Lillard scored 40 points - three shy of matching a career high set last Friday - and had a season-best 11 assists in a 115-111 overtime victory in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Lillard hit the tying 3-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to complete his team's comeback from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit in the final five minutes. Aldridge had 25 points after being questionable with an illness that kept him out of a 110-95 loss to Houston on Monday.

"That was a remarkable win. That's an understatement," coach Terry Stotts said. "I think it just kind of shows the type of character that we have on this team."

Aldridge, who has scored at least 25 points in three straight games, has four straight double-doubles versus Philadelphia, averaging 28.5 points and 13.8 rebounds.

Lillard's 16.3-point average in his last three matchups is his third-lowest against any opponent since the beginning of last season.

Philadelphia's Henry Sims, averaging 9.6 points, had a season-high 22 in last month's loss to Portland.
