Olshey via The Vertical with Woj: 'We Wanted to Build More for the Future'

by Cody Sharrett

The NBA trade deadline came and passed at noon on Thursday without a move from the Trail Blazers to go with the team's acquisition of Jusuf Nurkić and a 2017 first round draft pick from the Denver Nuggets earlier in the month. Joining NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski, Chris Mannix, Shams Charania and Brian Scalabrine, Blazers president of basketball operations Neil Olshey talked about the team's mindset at the deadline as part of Yahoo Sports' 2017 Trade Deadline live coverage.

Explained Olshey:

"We wanted to build more for the future. We added Jusuf Nurkić, a young big guy. We like his potential. He came along with a first round pick, so having three picks in this draft — having all of our players offer cost-certainty because they’re all under contract — gives us a lot of flexibility to make deals when we get into the offseason."
