Robin Lopez vs. Al Jefferson

Tonight’s matchup features a pair of big faces in new places. Portland’s new big man in the middle, Robin Lopez is already paying dividends after being acquired by the Trail Blazers via trade in the offseason. He is averaging a career high in rebounds (8.3). He ranks in the top 10 league-wide in field goal shooting percentage (54.4%). And his 12 double-doubles mark a new career high – with 50 games still left to play. Also new to his squad this year is Charlotte center Al Jefferson. A 10-year veteran with his fourth NBA team, Jefferson has continued the type of consistent productivity in Bobcat blue that has defined his career. He ranks among the league’s top 20 players in both rebounding (10.3) and blocked shots (1.33). And he is in the midst of his eighth consecutive NBA season averaging at least 16 points and nine rebounds per contest. In 13 head-to-head meetings between these two bigs, Jefferson holds the edge in scoring (18.0-9.6) and rebounding (8.9-5.5). But Lopez wins where it counts – on the scoreboard (9-4).
