Back to schedule

Greg Smith- A seven-year veteran of the NBA, Greg developed his old school skills while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks (where he was a part of the 1971 championship team) and Houston before joining the Blazers in 1972. Greg is proud to be a part of the Alumni team along with the other old-school players. The work they do for non-profit organizations have made it the best post-basketball experience of his career. Now a resident of Tualatin with his wife Linda, Greg has five children and two grandchildren and works as a sales manager for Fisher Broadcasting.

Nick Jones- A native Oregonian, Nick began his career in Southern California where he played for the San Diego Rockets and the Golden State Warriors. One of Nick’s favorite old-school memories was playing against the Boston Celtics his rookie year. In addition to being an active member of the Blazer Alumni Team, Nick spends a lot of time traveling throughout the state as the Blazers Community Ambassador. He resides in Portland with his wife, Cheri, and daughter, Morgan.

Shaler Halimon- This old school player’s skills kept him busy during his career in the NBA, he moved to four different cities in five years. Shaler was the first round draft pick of the Philadelphia 76ers in 1968 and two years later became an inaugural member of the Trail Blazers. Now a member of the Alumni Team, Shaler keeps busy these days as a bus operator for Tri-Met.

Darnell Valentine- During his ten-year career in the NBA, Darnell showed his old style by making sure his socks were at knee level for every game. While one of his favorite memories is returning to the NBA after being out for a year in 1990, he retired in 1991 to become a regional representative for the NBA Players Association. He now resides with his wife, Cindy, and daughter, Tierra in Tigard.

Larry Steele- Larry is an old school Blazer to the core. During his years as an NBA player, of which he spent all nine in Portland, Larry played on the 1977 championship team. Since retiring from the NBA, Larry continued to focus on sports by starting his own business, Community Sports & Events. He remained in the Portland area, settling in Lake Oswego with his wife, Vicki, and their three children.

Mark Radford- During his career with Seattle Supersonics, this player helped pass down the old school skills to younger generations with his pregame ritual of playing the ball boys in horse or one on one before each game. One of Mark’s favorite memories is of his first NBA game, during which his first shot was rejected by another old school great, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Mark, his wife Shawn, and his children Armin and Nina now live in Portland, where he works as a real estate agent.

Leroy Ellis, Sr.- Leroy’s old school skills won him a championship ring in as a member of the Lakers 1972 championship team. This player could teach the younger generation a thing or two about basketball, with over 10,000 points scored and 8,000 rebounds grabbed during his fourteen-year career. Instead of managing to win games, Leroy now manages property for Income Property management. He lives in Portland with Vera Moeller.

Bob Gross- This former Blazer carries on the old school tradition of teamwork, once working with five members of the alumni team for two hours in 32 degree weather to put chains on in order to make it over the pass to an alumni game. Bob played in the NBA for a total of eight years. During the seven years he spent with the Blazers, Bob was a member of the 1977 championship team. An estimator for Belfor Construction, he now lives in Portland with his wife, Cindi, and daughters, Traci and Kristin.

Michael Harper- Of this old school Blazer’s two years on the team, his favorite memory is his first game starting in the NBA against the Phoenix Suns. Michael truly enjoys being a member of the Alumni Team and working alongside the other former NBA players. He now works as a State Farm Insurance representative and resides in West Linn with his wife, Lisa, and children, Brittinie, Mike Jr., and Gaby.

Dale Schlueter- Ask Dale if he has any tips on how to play like an old-school NBA star, and he might tell you to eat French Toast! That was his pre game meal during his ten-year career in the NBA. Instead of planning how to beat the opposing team, Dale now acts as a retirement and estate planner for financial Benefits Resources. He resides in Tigard with his wife, Jeni, who is the game coordinator for the Alumni Team.

Darrall Imhoff- Bringing old school style back to the court, Darrall is the oldest member to join the Blazers, ending his 12 year NBA career with the team in 1972. Darrall once had an encounter with another old-school star of the musical variety when Dolly Parton ran into him in the Los Angeles airport. Now a resident of Eugene with his wife Susan, Darrall makes sure to take time out from his career as Vice President of Marketing for the U. S. Basketball Academy to spend time working with the Blazers Alumni team.
