Portland Trail Blazers General Manager John Nash announced today that first-round draft pick Martell Webster has been signed to a multi-year contract.
Webster, the sixth overall selection in the June 28th NBA Draft, will participate in the 2005 Reebok Vegas Summer League, being held July 6-15 at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 6-7, 233-pound Webster averaged 27.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists for Seattle (WA) Prep High School as he led the team to a 19-5 record. Webster was named one of 10 finalists for the Naismith Award, awarded to the nation’s top high school player. The 18-year-old Webster, who originally committed to play for the University of Washington, was also named to PARADE Magazine All-America First Team.
The Trail Blazers are holding a mini-camp this weekend and early next week at the team’s practice facility in Tualatin. The mini camp is in preparation for Summer League in which the team leaves for on Tuesday.
