Trail Blazers Fine Qyntel Woods

February 18, 2004

Woods The Portland Trail Blazers have fined forward Qyntel Woods for conduct detrimental to the team.

Woods was a passenger in his own car Saturday when the driver was pulled over for speeding outside of Coalinga by the California Highway Patrol. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and for possession of marijuana.

Woods was not given a field test and was not charged with any crime.

"This news is disappointing," Blazers president Steve Patterson said. "We believe we've made strides in impressing on everyone what is expected of our players. Although Qyntel was not charged with anything, he put himself in a situation that is not acceptable to us as an organization."
