Trail Blazers Hold Press Conference

Team Introduces Nate McMillan as New Head Coach

July 7, 2005

The Portland Trail Blazers held a press conference at an afternoon gathering at the Washington Park Amphitheater to introduce new Head Coach, Nate McMillan. Before the press conference started, the team had prizes for kids and provided complimentary hot dogs and popsicles for all fans that attended. A jazz band was also on hand to provide some music on a very beautiful summer afternoon.

Trail Blazers Broadcast Founder/Ambassador, Bill Schonely, took the microphone to give a short address and directed everyone's attention to the amphitheater stairs. Trail Blazers management and team owner, Paul Allen walked McMillan down the stairs of the Rose Garden and into the amphitheater where Trail Blazers fans gave their new Coach a very warm welcome. After making their way through the crowd, they took their seats on the stage.

County Commissioner Diane Linn and Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman came on stage to give McMillan a warm welcome to the City of Roses on behalf of Portland. Team owner Paul Allen and team President Steve Patterson each addressed the crowd before McMillan spoke.

New Coach, Nate McMillan spoke for a short period to the crowd on hand. He started by thanking Paul, Steve and John and also Seattle, the team he was with for 19 years. McMillan also spoke about needing a change and being excited for the opportunity here in Portland. The press conference then opened to those with questions. Following the press conference, Coach McMillan and management came off the stage to greet fans and give autographs.
