On July 26, the Portland Trail Blazers signed restricted free agent guard
Trenton Hassell to an offer sheet.
Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement set forth by the National Basketball Association, the Minnesota
Timberwolves had 15 days to match the Trail Blazers offer.
Earlier today, Minnesota announced that they
had matched Portland's offer and that Hassell will remain with the Timberwolves.
"We are obviously disappointed that we did not acquire Trenton Hassell," said Trail Blazers General Manager
John Nash. "But it is not surprising that the Minnesota Timberwolves place as much value on him as we did.
We wish the Timberwolves and Trenton every success. We continue to look for opportunities to improve our
team."
The Trail Blazers open the 2004-05
regular season at Golden State on Wednesday, November 3 before returning to Portland to host the L.A. Clippers in the Rose Garden on Friday, November 5.
