The youth movement for the Portland Trail Blazers is looking very bright, as they cruised past the Golden State Warriors, 90-74. The young and athletic Blazers displayed quickness, smarts, hustle and looked as if they have been playing together for years.
Sebastian Telfair looked like a veteran point guard as he led the charge for the Blazers, scoring 23 points (6-12 FG) and dishing out 10 assists. Telfair had 16 points (4-8 FG, 8-8 FT) at halftime.
Telfair nearly missed a triple-double in the Blazers first summer league game, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Travis Outlaw pitched in 18 points (7-19 FG), 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Blazers, while rookie
Martell Webster had 15 points (5-10 FG). The Blazers finished the game shooting 51 percent (33-65 FG). They also outscored the Warriors 46-28 in the paint and 22-11 in points off turnovers.
The Blazers used a 34-17 third quarter to take the lead, as they shot 67 percent (14-21 FG) in the quarter.
Ike Diogu led the Warriors attack with 16 points (5-10 FG) and eight rebounds. Monta Ellis had 15 points and six rebounds, but hit only four or his 16 shots. Golden State finished the game shooting 47 percent (25-66 FG).
Golden State took a four point lead into halftime, 43-39. The Warriors shot 47 percent for the half, while Portland shot 44 percent (12-27 FG). The Warriors had a 16-10 advantage in the paint and out-rebounded the Blazers by four (43-39) at the break.
The Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night at 8 p.m., while the Blazers battle the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday at 5 p.m.
