Old School Meets New School as 1977 Reunion Tips Off

Old school met new school on Monday as the 30th Anniversary of the Trail Blazers 1977 NBA World Championship tipped off in Portland.

The morning started at the crack of dawn with the great Dr. Jack Ramsay visiting numerous radio stations and regaling the listening audience with his vivid memories of the Trail Blazers 1977 title run.

Dr. Jack then made his way south to the Trail Blazers practice facility for Portlandís final practice of the 2006-07 NBA season. After touring the facility, Nate McMillan invited the Hall of Fame coach to address the Trail Blazers team prior to training. Following a brief introduction from Maurice Lucas, Ramsay shared some memories of 1977, but also talked to the team about the youth, chemistry and the make-up of the Ď77 club and what made that team so special.

Later in the afternoon Ď77 team members gathered at the Rose Garden for media interviews and photographs prior to heading upstairs to the Rose Room for a private cocktail reception and dinner. The dinner party was a veritable whoís who of Trail Blazers past present. In addition to the 1977 players and coaches, on hand were the likes of Steve Johnson, Darrall Imhoff, Greg Smith, Brandon Roy, Travis Outlaw, Sergio Rodriguez, Ime Udoka, Dale Schueter, Dr. Bob Cook, Harry Glickman, Larry Weinberg, Bill Schonely, Kevin Pritchard, Nate McMillan, Dean Demopoulos, Michael Harper, and Jerome Kersey just to name a few.

On Wednesday the reunion kicks into high gear with a handful of morning media tours followed by a noontime rally for the 1977 NBA Champions at Terry Schrunk Plaza in downtown Portland.

Wednesday night the action switches to the Rose Garden where the 1977 NBA Champions will be honored during pre-game ceremonies at Portlandís regular season finales vs. the Golden State Warriors. And then at halftime, the highlight of the 1977 Reunion will take place, as Lionel Hollins #14 jersey will be retired into the Rose Garden rafters.
