2003-2004 Blazer Dancer Team

"The Tryouts"

By Marlene

This year, the Blazer Dancer Tryouts started off on the weekend of July 19th and 20th, and ended on the July 26th. A hundred plus young ladies showed up to audition to be one of the next Blazer Dancers. As veteran of seven years, tryouts only seem to get harder, but it is all worth it.

As the final auditions neared, I realized that I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be. I was busy with College classes towards my Masters Degree during that week and found myself almost in tears the day before the audition. I was running on lack of sleep, lack of preparation, and to some extent a lack of confidence.

Every year, the competition gets harder and I have to find a way to separate myself from the rest of the group. Sewing my own outfits to wear is a tradition for me, but many have caught on to that and I needed more. So I went to the salon and had six inches of my hair cut off and then highlighted the rest. It wasn’t a huge change for me, but it was the step I needed to be different.

Finally I told myself that I can't make-up for lost time and I just need to "Bring it." (To "bring it" refers to bringing all that you have to win your spot back). Knowing that there were 12 dancers from last years team trying to come back, and two more who took a year or two off trying to come back as well made it 14 returners trying to come back. What we did not know is how many dancers the organization wanted to take. We heard that they wanted to make some cuts and cut back on the number of dancers.

So we were all nervous. The individual routines are my favorite because you can see what people do best. Of course I had to do my trademark of the "shaking," to Sean Paul's "Shake that thing." All in all it was a great tryout. So without any delay, here is your 2003-2004 Blazer Dancer Team!!

Joy, Donna, Krissy, Betsy, Kristin, Leisel, Ione, Melissa, Ana, Tracy, Monica, Daisy, Desiree, Kimberly, Marlene, Mindy, We hope you will all come out to support the Blazers and see your Blazer Dancers in action. GO BLAZERS!!!!
