Their similarities are striking. They have both been described as do-it-all and multi-talented with all around skills. They rarely complain. Their character and work ethic is undeniable. Really, the biggest difference between the two is one has his own bobblehead and the other doesnít. Thatís why it makes perfect sense for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oregon-based Leatherman Tool Group to join forces and create the limited edition Brandon Roy Leatherman Micra multi-tool.

Some 250 Brandon Roy Leatherman tools will be mailed to voting journalists throughout the country this week in a show of support for Roy to be selected as the National Basketball Associationís Rookie of the Year. A limited number of the multi-tools will also be available for purchase at the Trail Blazers team store on trailblazers.com.

"I thought having my own bobblehead was cool, but having my very own Leatherman is even better," said Roy. "I just really appreciate all the support that our fans, sponsors, and now Leatherman has given me this year. Whether I win Rookie of the Year award or not, itís just great being a part of this community and Trail Blazers organization. Itís almost overwhelming all the support the team and I have received this year. I tell you what, itís made my rookie season far more special than I ever would have imagined coming in."

The former University of Washington star, who was the sixth player selected in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft, has had an outstanding freshman season. Roy leads his rookie competition in virtually every statistical category including scoring, rebounds, assists and steals. Heís twice been named the NBAís Rookie of the Month and was selected by the league to participate in the NBA Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam at All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas earlier this year.

"As a fellow member of the Portland community, Leatherman wanted to support Brandon and the Trail Blazers in his bid for Rookie of the Year. A special edition Micra multi-tool for Brandon was a fun, great way to do this," said Jake Nichol, CEO, Leatherman Tool Group.

Made of 100% high-grade stainless steel, the Brandon Roy Edition Leatherman Micra sports the Trail Blazers traditional red and black colors and features a compact pair of scissors, clip-point knife, nail file/cleaner, tweezers, extra small screwdriver, medium screwdriver, flat Phillips screwdriver, ruler, bottle opener, and key ring attachment.

Roy would be the first Portland Trail Blazer since Sydney Wicks in 1972 to capture Rookie of the Year honors. The only other Trail Blazer to win the award was Geoff Petrie in 1971.

The NBAís Rookie of the Year award is given to the top, first-year player in the league, an annual tradition awarded since the 1952-1953 season.
