Jack Signs and Outlaw’s Option Exercised

July 14, 2005

Portland Trail Blazers General Manager John Nash announced today that First Round draft pick, guard Jarrett Jack, has been signed to a multi-year contract.

Jack, the 22nd overall selection in the June 28th NBA Draft, has not participated in Vegas Summer league play because of a minor ankle injury suffered during pre-draft workouts.

In addition, Nash announced the club has exercised its option on the fourth year of forward Travis Outlaw’s contract, extending through the 2006-2007 season.

The 6-3, 202-pound Jack averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 assist, and 1.8 steals per game as a three year starter at Georgia Tech. He is the sixth player in school history to score 1,000 points and 500 assists.

The 22-year-old Jack was an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft and was selected in the first round, 22nd overall, by the Denver Nuggets. He was later acquired via trade for the draft rights to Linas Kleiza (1st Round, 27th Selection) and Ricky Sanchez (2nd Round, 35th Selection).

The 6-9, 210-pound Outlaw averaged 5.4 points and 2 rebounds in 59 games last year. Selected in the First Round, 23rd pick overall, in the 2003 NBA Draft, Outlaw came on strong in the last two months of the season averaging 9.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 21.3 minutes. Had a career-high 20 points on the final game of the 2005 season April 20 vs. the Lakers.

In summer league action today, Portland defeated Washington 90-78 with Sebastian Telfair leading the way with 27 points and 8 rebounds as their record improved to 3-2. The Trail Blazers will finish up play in the Vegas Summer league in a rematch with the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday, beginning at 2 p.m.
