Greg Oden Enjoys Sand In The City

Two weeks ago Greg Oden made his Portland debut in front of thousands of raucous fans at Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square. On Friday afternoon, Oden, the number one pick in last month’s NBA Draft, reappeared in Portland’s "Living Room," but this time in the form of a sand sculpture.

As part of Yoshida’s "Sand in the City" charity event, artist Barry Swires sculpted sand into the likes of Portland's prized draft pick. Hearing of the sand sculpture, Oden made a surprise visit to view the artwork and meet the artist. After viewing the sculpture and meeting the artist, Oden spent some time mingling with fans and signing autographs.

Proceeds from "Sand in the City" go to "Kids on the Block," a non-profit organization that works to prevent devastating effects of abuse and unhealthy habits and promote self-esteem in kids.

The sculpture of Oden will be on display all weekend at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
