Oregon Children’s Theatre presents
The Former One-on-One Basketball Champion

Oregon Children’s Theatre will present the Oregon premiere of The Former One-on-One Basketball Champion, a powerful play about basketball and life at the Winningstad Theatre from October 15-31, 2004. Sponsored by the Portland Trail Blazers, the two-person cast includes former Portland Trail Blazer Michael Harper and rising young actor Sam Burns. This play is recommended for teens and parents, ages 11 and up.

About the Play:
One-on-One, person to person, no subs, no refs, no free throws. Katz vs. Allen, fan vs. idol, boy vs. man. Two lives intricately entwined in a battle to 21 points; fighting for integrity, principles and redemption. Sometimes winning is everything…

Fourteen-year-old Irving Katz is shooting hoops one day when he comes face-to-face with Irving Allen, a former NBA star who represents the sport he loves and the tragedy he cannot forget. As the two Irvings play a game of one-on-one basketball, they must sift through the differences between celebrities and outcasts, fathers and sons, wealth and poverty, life and death—and the blurry lines that sometimes separate them.

Each performance is followed by a “post-game” interactive forum featuring former Blazers. The discussion will center on contemporary role models.
