Blazers seek successful finish to five-game road trip

The Portland Trail Blazers (34-31) conclude a five-game road trip in California’s capital against the Sacramento Kings (28-35) tonight at Arco Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The season series between these two teams is split at 1-1, with both of those games being played at the Rose Garden. The last meeting ended with the Blazers losing 105-94, which at the time extended a Portland losing streak to five games.

Ron Artest out-muscled everything Portland threw at him in the previous meeting, finishing with a game-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Francisco Garcia and Kevin Martin added 23 and 21 points, respectively.

Travis Outlaw led the Trail Blazers off the bench with 23 points. Jarrett Jack equaled a career-high in assists with 11. Brandon Roy, hampered by illness, added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the losing effort.

LaMarcus Aldridge is averaging 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal in two games against the Kings this season. He’s also averaging 24 points per game in his last four starts.

Joel Przybilla, who is expected to play tonight despite a sore foot, holds franchise records against Sacramento for rebounds in a regulation game (21, Mar. 25, 2005) and an overtime game (22, Jan. 18, 2005). Przybilla is averaging more than 10 boards a game during the current road trip.

The road-weary Trail Blazers will once again face a well-rested team, as the Kings haven’t played since defeating the L.A. Lakers 114-113 on Sunday.

The Blazers enter tonight’s game having gone 3-1 on their current road swing. A win against the Kings would make this road trip one of the more successful away stretches in recent franchise history.

The Blazers are 4-6 in the last 10 games played in Sacramento. Portland leads the all-time series 104-67, making the Kings one of only three franchises that the Blazers have defeated over 100 times.

Tonight’s game can be seen on Comcast SportsNet Channel 37 starting at 7 p.m. with Mike Barrett and Mike Rice. On the radio side, you can listen to Brian Wheeler and Antonio Harvey call the game on the Blazers radio Network.
