The Portland Trail Blazers have signed guard Matt Carroll and placed guard Derek Anderson on the Injured List with
low back spasms.
Carroll will be in uniform tonight when the Blazers visit the Seattle Supersonics and will wear jersey #31. He was not drafted in the 2003 NBA Draft, but went to training camp with the New York Knicks. He was one of New York’s last cuts, getting waived by the Knicks on October 27th.
Carroll was named Honorable Mention All-America by Associated Press and earned All-Big East Conference First Team honors as a senior last year at Notre Dame. The 23-year-old finished his career sixth on Notre Dame’s all-time scoring list with 1,850 points. Carroll also ranks as the school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals made (301), games played (133), games started (125), and second in career free throw percentage (.825). He scored in double figures in 96 of 133 career games. Carroll’s college statistics are listed at the bottom of this page.
Anderson has been suffering from back spasms since early in training camp. He sat out the final five pre-season games and has only played three minutes during the regular season.
The Portland Trail Blazers have also activated Forward Travis Outlaw from the Injured List. The 6-foot-9 rookie was placed on the Injured List with Bilateral Patellar Tendonitis on October 27.
