Blazers Announce 2003-04 Schedule

The Portland Trail Blazers will open the 2003-04 NBA regular season on the road against Western Conference rival, Utah Jazz, during the NBA’s “Premiere Week.” The Blazers and Jazz will face off on Wednesday, October 29, the second day of the regular season at the Delta Center in Utah.

The Blazers will face the Cleveland Cavaliers and phenom LeBron James in the home opener, scheduled for Saturday, November 1 at the Rose Garden. The Blazers will play 27 of 41 home games, and 52 of 82 regular season games before the NBA All-Star break, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 13-16 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. In that stretch, the Blazers have two, four-game home stands.

The first home stand for the Blazers will include four Eastern Conference contenders Washington (Nov. 25), New Jersey (Nov. 28), Indiana (Dec. 3) and New York (Dec. 5). One week later the Blazers host Western Conference powerhouse’s Los Angeles Lakers (Dec. 13) and San Antonio Spurs (Dec. 20) in the second four-game home stand that also includes the Phoenix Suns (Dec. 18) and Eastern Conference foe Milwaukee Bucks (Dec. 16). The first half of the season also includes three, three–game home stands.

The Blazers hit the road for the start of the second half of the season, starting with a post NBA All-Star Game match-up with the Los Angeles Lakers on February 17. The Blazers will play 16 road games in the two months after the break including a four game trip to Miami (Feb. 23), Orlando (Feb. 24), Houston (Feb. 27) and Dallas (Feb. 28), as well as two, three-game road trips. The Blazers end the season with two attractive home games when they face the defending World Champion San Antonio Spurs on Monday, April 12, and the all-star laden Los Angeles Lakers on Wed. April 14.

The 2003-2004 Blazers schedule features 15 back-to-back match-ups, in those contests the Blazers play the second game on the road 11 times. The Blazers will also play four day games, all on the road.

The Blazers will play 13 nationally televised games, eight games can be seen on ESPN and ESPN2 while TNT will air five Blazers contests. Eight of the Blazers 13 national television games will be played at home, including games versus the Sacramento Kings (Nov. 11), the Minnesota Timberwolves (Dec. 26) and the Detroit Pistons (Mar. 4).

Every home and road game during the Blazers 2003-04 season will be broadcast on flagship station Newsradio 750KXL AM, and along the Blazers’ 24-market satellite radio network. The Blazers will announce their television schedule as soon as it is finalized. Blazers fans will be able to catch 26 Blazers games on television partner KGW Northwest Newschannel 8 and 35 contests on cable partner Fox Sports Net.
