5 ALL-Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA REGIONAL TEAM PLAYERS
These five players were selected from over 650 league nominations from member leagues. All nominees received an All-Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA local player certificate and Regional finalists will be receiving an All-Region medallion. All nominees displayed excellent skills in 9 separate categories; shooting, rebounding, ball handling, defense, teamwork, sportsmanship, passing, effort and leadership.
5 local nominees are:
Mary Jo Pflaum, 11, Coquille Or. Mary played in a competitive league and led her team to an undefeated season last year. She is always encouraging her teammates and is respectful of her opponents and league officials. Mary quotes, “ I like it when everyone scores a basket because then they all go home happy and feel like they had a good game.”
Sage Gerson, 12, Lebanon, OR. Sage is an excellent team player and a straight A student, leading by example in effort and sportsmanship. She works hard in the off season on improving her skills along with contributing to the community by cleaning up trash around waterways, and helping first and second graders learn to read. In the summer she volunteers at a nursing home.
Justin Lee Marshall, 11, Lebanon, OR. Justin is a leader and has great work ethics. He is always the first one to pick up a teammate and congratulate after a good play. Justin volunteers in his neighborhood, helping elderly take care of their yards and helps maintain city parks. He has not missed a team event in three years and is dedicated to his team and to his self-improvement.
Lincoln Gay, 12, The Dalles, OR. Lincoln loves basketball and loves being a part of a team. Lincoln is an outstanding leader for his age, and is heavily recruited for traveling teams. He has a great understanding of pure basketball and is definitely “old school”. His teammates call him “Pistol Pete” without the baggy socks.
Teddy Ann Phares, 11, Lewiston, ID. Teddy is very active in the Boys and Girls club. She is always volunteering to help with activities going on at the club. She motivates others to become involved by always having a positive attitude.
