If you haven’t had your heart broken by a last second shot, then you probably haven’t been a Blazers fan for very long. Buzzer-beating three pointers have a way of ruining an otherwise pleasant evening at the Rose Garden.

On December 21, the Denver Nuggets strolled into Portland with designs on ending the Blazers’ nine game win streak. Trailing by seven points in the fourth quarter, the Trail Blazers started the final period with a 16-2 run and outscored their divisional rivals 30-20 in the period. Portland led 99-96, but Denver had the ball with roughly three seconds left, more than enough time to get off a good shot.

So when Denver’s Linas Kleiza, a 34% three point shooter, spotted up for a game-tying triple with around two seconds left in regulation, you could imagine that some longtime fans were dreading the results.

But in flew Travis Outlaw. Having already scored 11 points in the quarter, Outlaw used his ample vertical leap and length to get a hand on Kleiza’s attempt, swatting the shot back from whence it came as time expired. Blazers win.
