Trail Blazers, Wells Fargo Pledge 40,000 Community Service Hours this Season

Take time out to volunteer

Fans encouraged to participate in ambitious goal to “Make It Better”

The Portland Trail Blazers and Wells Fargo are displaying a corporate commitment to “Make It Better” in the communities in which we live, work and play.  At the team’s annual Fan Fest tonight, the two companies pledged to devote 40,000 service hours to the community this season.

Both companies are encouraging fans to join in the program, which will continue throughout the Trail Blazers’ 40th anniversary season, concluding on April 14, 2010, the final night of the regular season.

“At Wells Fargo we have established a proud, award-winning tradition of volunteer community service. It is a part of our core values,” said Don Pearson of Portland, Wells Fargo’s regional president for Oregon and Southwest Washington. “Volunteering is an investment in the future of our communities. I invite all of our team members, customers and fellow community members to join us in this important effort. I can’t think of a better way to commemorate the Trail Blazers’ 40th anniversary.”

Employees of both companies will be directed to available service opportunities by in-house volunteer coordinators, who will log total participation hours for the more than 6,000 Wells Fargo and Trail Blazers employees in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Fans interested in contributing towards the total of 40,000 hours can log on to www.iamatrailblazers.comand click on the “Volunteer” link for opportunities and more information.

“When it comes to assisting those in need, we should all set ambitious goals,” Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said. “A lot can be accomplished in 40,000 hours, and we look forward to working side by side with Wells Fargo employees and customers as well as Trail Blazers fans to help those most in need in our communities.”

On Friday, the Trail Blazers were in Salem accepting the Oregon Governor’s Volunteer Award for Outstanding Employee Volunteer Program. The Trail Blazers offer 40 hours annually for employees to volunteer at organizations of their choice during the work week. The team's "Make It Better" program hosts all-company service days throughout the season and sends small employee teams into the community weekly throughout the summer months. In addition, Trail Blazers employees personally contributed more than $33,000 to benefit local service organizations last year.
