Trail Blazers Past and Present to Host Fall Party at Garlington Head Start
Trail Blazers, Toyota celebrate with Albina Head Start students
To kick off NBA Week of Service, the Trail Blazers hosted their first annual Hoops & Heart gala and auction at the Rose Garden. The current Trail Blazers team attended, along with numerous alumni which included a special appearance by Bill Walton. A majority of proceeds from the event helped benefit the make it better fund.
Monday, one of the newest members of the Trail Blazer squad Juwan Howard, Trail Blazer Alumni Ambassador Terry Porter and Blaze the Trail Cat joined Trail Blazers and Toyota staff for a visit to Garlington Head Start, home to a Project Rebound Reading and Learning Center, for a Fall Party. Howard and Porter read a Halloween story to the kids before joining them in a pumpkin painting activity.

In 2008, Toyota and NBA Cares selected Portland as one of 14 cities around the country to implement an NBA Cares community project. With funding, volunteers and other support, the Trail Blazers teamed up with Toyota to lend a major assist to two local Head Start centers through the construction of two Reading and Learning centers. The Garlington Head Start center is home to one of the two rooms constructed that year.
