Be The One Run
As the summer progresses, more and more teams of make it better volunteers are getting out in and around Portland. On a recent Sunday morning, a make it better team participated in the Be the One Run 5K Run and Walk along Naito Parkway. The Be the One Run benefited the Be the Match Registry, which offers people the unique opportunity to help a patient by donating bone marrow or umbilical cord blood. Thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match. The make it better team chose to get involved with the Be the Match Registry because several Trail Blazers employees have, over the years, signed up with the registry and donated bone marrow.
The make it better team members were primarily course marshals, helping the nearly 800 runners stay on course and complete the race. By the end, of what was a very soggy race, more than $35,000 were raised for the Be the Match Foundation. To find out more about the Be the One Registry or how to donate bone marrow, go here.
