Trail Blazers Celebrate Reading Month

Trail Blazers Surprise Middle School Students

Each year during the month of March, the Portland Trail Blazers celebrate Reading Month in support of the NBA’s Read to Achieve program. As an incentive for reaching literacy goals, schools and students are selected through a drawing to win school assemblies and tickets to a game. Trail Blazers Greg Oden and Shavlik Randolph brought along their friend Blaze to surprise the students at Conestoga Middle School with a fun and interactive celebration assembly. Trail Blazers Travis Outlaw and Joel Przybilla, along with game night extraordinaire Todd Bosma, traveled to Beaver Acres School to celebrate with hundreds of elementary students.

Trail Blazers Reading Event

Tuesday March 10, 2009, inspired, goal oriented and determined REAP students filled the Metro Council Chamber Room. There were students whom were musicians, poets, future entrepreneurs, young speakers and just students with a dream. REAP in partnership with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Portland Children’s Investment Fund held a phenomenal event, “The Future is Now”, that gave young students a voice. The voice that extended to our mayors, Portland Trail Blazers, CEO’S, principals, parents, and most importantly, our community.

Bayless to Visit Elementary School, Elite Athletes

The Trail Blazers and Jerryd Bayless helped Make It Better for the students at Riverside Elementary School in Milwaukie recently. Jerryd help Riverside Physical Education teacher, Mrs. Monica Kendall, pass out awards to students there who had earned the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Fitness Award at an all-school assembly. Jerryd, who also earned the award while a student, was there specifically to help honor a pair sixth graders who have earned the Award all six years they have been in school.

Webster, Coaches to Visit Palisades Elementary

Trail Blazers forward Martell Webster, assistant coaches Bill Bayno and Kaleb Canales and Director of Game Operations Todd Bosma will host a pair of assemblies at Palisades Elementary School in Lake Oswego. The two assembly-format will provide a more intimate setting, allowing more students and staff to participate in Trail Blazers game night contests.
