Trail Blazers Celebrate with Military Families
PORTLAND, Ore. – The state of Oregon has thousands of active military members who ‘Make it Better’ for our country. Today, the Portland Trail Blazers did what they could to ‘Make it Better’ for more than 100 people with a family member serving our country.
The families celebrated alongside the entire Trail Blazers team, coaching staff, executives, alumni and staff with an evening of games, ice skating, and entertainment.
Among the guests were 23 families of soldiers who will be deployed over the next three months, and seven families of soldiers who are currently serving overseas. During the event, those families with a member overseas got the special opportunity to video-conference with their loved ones.
Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan tipped things off with a formal address and ‘thank you’ to the families for their service to our country. Shortly after, the families dispersed to the numerous stations around the Georgia Pacific room of the Memorial Coliseum.
The eight stations, each manned by Trail Blazers players, included cotton candy and snow cones with Joel Przybilla and Travis Outlaw, ‘Kiddie Striker’ with Greg Oden, double-shot basketball with Brandon Roy and an inflatable play zone with the ‘Spanish Armada’, Rudy Fernandez and Sergio Rodriguez. The families also had a chance to ice skate on the Portland Winter Hawks rink.
Each family was presented with gifts from the Trail Blazers and Nike.
