How Acquired --- In trade from San Diego in exchange for Larry Seigfried.
Departed --- Traded to San Francisco for 1971 2nd and 3rd round draft choices (Charles Yelverton, Bill Smith), and 1972 2nd roung draft choice (Dave Twardzik), 3/23/7.
As a Trail Blazer --- One of the original Trail Blazers and a starter in the first regular season game . . . Scored team’s first point on a free throw at the 9:18 mark of the first quarter in the Blazers’ inaugural against Cleveland Oct. 16, 1970, in Memorial Coliseum . . . His 1,444 points (18.5 per game) were the most in one season during his 11 years in the NBA . . . Team’s second-leading scorer while starting 75 of 78 games . . . Third on team in assists (4.1 apg) . . . Scored in double digits in 69 of the 78 games and had at least one basket in all 78 contests . . . Tallied 20 or more points 31 times and had nine games of 30 points or more, including a Blazers career-high 40 points against the Knicks on Nov. 8, making him the first member of the team’s 40-point club . . . On Nov. 18 against Atlanta, he converted all 16 of his free throws, a Blazers record one-game accuracy mark that has remained intact for 33 years . . . Posted his only triple-double as a Trail Blazer on Dec. 1 against the San Diego Rockets—27 points, 10 rebounds and a Portland career high 12 assists.
After Basketball --- The former University of Oregon All-American retired in 1977 after 11 seasons and 732 NBA games, playing for seven different teams . . . While retired from the NBA, he continued to play basketball . . . In the late 1990s, his team was a three-time National AAU Master’s champion, won the Master’s World title in 1999 and earned a silver medal in 2001 . . . For the past 18 years, he has been television color commentator for the Golden State Warriors . . . In addition, he is a successful businessman working with an Oakland-based sports promotion company . . . He makes his home in Orinda, California.
