As a Trail Blazer --- One of the original Trail Blazers . . . Played in 79 of the 82 games during the inaugural season . . . drew one starting assignment . . . Averaged 7.1 points and 5.2 rebounds during his Portland tenure . . . Averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds in the teamís first five games . . . Was particularly tough on the boards in the early going, claiming a Portland career-best 14 rebounds in three of the first 10 contests . . . Tallied a Blazers career-high 19 points twice, on 12/27/70 vs. Boston and 3/7/71 at San Diego . . . Scored in double figures 22 times and had nine double-digit rebound games . . . Despite his size (6-7 and 210 pounds), he was a tough competitor in the paint and was at his best when driving to the basket . . . Went on a tear in mid-season, averaging 11.3 points in a 10-game stretch..

After Basketball ---A three-year NBA veteran when the Blazers claimed him in the 1970 NBA expansion draft, he moved over to the fledgling American Basketball Association after being waived by Portland just before the start of the 1971-72 season . . . He played five more seasons, all with the ABA, seeing action in 324 games, averaging 6.6 points and 4.4 rebounds . . . His son, Danny Manning, was a concensus 1st team All-American on the Kansas Jayhawks team that won the 1988 NCAA championship . . . Danny, who was a four-year-old tagging along after his dad during Portlandís first season, was the first pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.
