Schmaltzriedt is another of the bright, young prospects for Portland basketball. In only four years of wheelchair basketball, Schmaltzriedt has developed into one of the best players in the Pacific Northwest. His combination of size, quickness, and tenacity make him a great defender and creates match up problems in defending him. He has led Portland in scoring for the last two seasons. At the end of last season Schmaltzriedt graduated from Portland State with a double major in Fine Arts and Graphic Design. Last summer he had his first gallery show. In addition to being a promising artist, he is also a musician, playing the guitar and writing songs. Some his work is available for viewing on-line at: www.schmalzriedt.tripod.com. OPVA Member.

In addition to the 2003 NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic, the East and West All-Stars, their coaches, former NBA players Lafayette “Fat” Lever and Mike Glenn and present WNBA players, will host a wheelchair basketball clinic for 50 youth from the Atlanta area. The clinic will take place at the Bernie Marcus Jewish Community Center on Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

In addition to the 2003 NBA/NWBA Wheelchair Classic, Jam Session will feature more than 350,000 square feet of basketball activities and games. Fans of all ages can test their basketball passing skills while battling a bungee cord, enjoy the sounds of today's hottest musical artists, see their favorite NBA and WNBA players, slam dunk, launch a jump shot from a trampoline, shoot baskets with a slingshot, make their own personalized basketball trading card, test their trivia skills, and much more.
