Wheel Blazers

Entering into their third season as one of the Portland Trail Blazers most visible community partners, the Wheel Blazers travel throughout the state and nation playing in tournaments and games through the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). The Wheel Blazers also participate in numerous Trail Blazers community efforts including the organizations key outreach programs, speaking at schools and with community groups.

Along with the support of the Trail Blazers, 24-Hour Fitness provides gym time, and Nike provides financial support and apparel. The Wheel Blazers program is administered by Oregon Disability Sports, a non-profit organization that promotes athletic opportunities for people with physical disabilities. Each year ODS serves more than 400 people of all ages in Oregon and Southwest Washington in a variety of sports. The mission of ODS is to encourage people with physical disabilities to lead healthy lifestyles so that they can become participating, active members of society.

The NWBA is comprised of 181 basketball teams within twenty-two conferences. The NWBA was founded in 1948, and today consists of men’s, women’s, intercollegiate, and youth teams throughout the United States of America and Canada.
