Martell Webster Helps Celebrate SMART

Portland Philanthropist Howard Hedinger recently hosted the SMART 100 Kids Club’s founding members, who are funding the SMART program for 100 or more children who need special reading support, at his Troutdale ranch. Trail Blazer Martell Webster joined SMART CEO Lisa Wiebe, Hedinger and other community leaders such as Dick Lytle, Irving Levin, the Jubitz Family and others in celebration of another year supporting SMART.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Oregon fourth graders reads below the basic level? Did you know you can do something about it?!

Volunteer with SMART (Start Making A Reader Today), Oregon’s leading nonprofit literacy organization. Spend an hour a week reading one-on-one with at-risk K-3 children who need your support and encouragement. Help them choose new books to take home and keep.
