Portland Wheel Blazers Host Second Annual Bridge City Classic
December 29, 2005
The Portland Wheel Blazers play host to the Second Annual Bridge City Classic January 22-23, 2005 at Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) in north Portland. The tournament is a two, three-team pool format. Each team plays two games in its pool.
The top two teams from each pool then play crossover games against the other pool. The winners of the crossover games will play for the tournament championship Sunday at Noon. Alberta is the defending tournament champion.
The Wheel Blazers are off to a rough start this season, but are hoping that the New Year will bring better results for them. Their first game is against the Golden State Road Warriors at 1 PM. The Wheel Blazers then face the Los Angeles Fast Breakin’ Lakers at 4 PM. The Fast Breakin’ Lakers have knocked the Wheel Blazers out of the playoffs each of the last two seasons, beating them again last month 62-55.
Teams that round out the field are: Golden State Road Warriors, Alberta Northern Lights, Los Angeles Fast Breakin’ Lakers, Los Angeles Clipper Chairmen, and the Utah Rollin’ Jazz. The five out-of-town teams are all ranked in the top 20, including Golden State (#1) and Alberta (#2). Those teams played for last season’s national championship, which Golden State won, 60-51.
