Heart of the Community Award

At a Valentine’s Day Event, the Blazers and VolunteerWorks will announce the second annual Heart of the Community Awards to honor exemplary volunteers who demonstrate selfless compassion and commitment to volunteerism.
Local dignitaries will present the awards in five categories, including former Self Enhancement Inc. President Tony Hopson, Blazers player Jerome Kersey, Oregon State Senator Margaret Carter, KGW anchor Laurel Porter and Blazers Executive Vice President Erin Hubert.
Award winners were chosen in five categories out of nearly one hundred nominees, including outstanding youth, outstanding community volunteer outstanding senior, outstanding nonprofit volunteer manager and outstanding corporate volunteer program.
All proceeds from sponsorships and table sales benefit VolunteerWorks, Portland’s volunteer center dedicated to matching volunteers of all ages with nonprofit organizations throughout communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The judging panel consisted of 10 individuals representing local corporations, nonprofits, retired and individual volunteers. Sponsors include: Fred Meyer, PGE, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon and KGW Northwest News Channel 8.
