Cheeks and Kersey Join Alumni Team

The Blazers Alumni Team, now in its twenty-fifth year, tipped-off with some very special guests against the Clackamas County Fire Fighters #1, Thursday March 18th at Oregon City High School

Thursday night’s Alumni Team roster, comprised of former NBA stars, featured special guest players, Coach Maurice Cheeks and Trail Blazer greats Jerome Kersey and Kevin Duckworth. Broadcasting legend Bill Schonely called the game. 2002 Ms. America Katie Harman and the BlazerDancers also joined the festivities.

Now entering there twenty-fifth season, the Blazers Alumni team has played basketball games throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington to raise funds for charity. In the twenty-five seasons the team has played, the Blazers Alumni team has grossed more than 2.5 million dollars and assisted more than six hundred charities with fundraising efforts.

The tip off was a fundraiser for the Clackamas Fire & Emergency Medical Services Foundation. The game included a half-time auction of Blazers paraphernalia and other items. All proceeds from the auction and game will go towards the Clackamas Fire & Emergency Medical Services Foundation.

"Playing with the Alumni Team is great," said Kevin Duckworth. "It is for a good cause and playing ball with a team is nice. Kersey can still shoot pretty well!"

The theme for this year’s alumni team season is “Still Blazing a Trail after 25 years.” The alumni team will showcase old school talents from past players such as Bob Gross, LeRoy Ellis, Shaler Hamilton, Michael Harper, Antonio Harvey, Darrall Imhoff, Nick Jones, Mark Radford, Dale Schlueter, Greg Smith and Darnell Valentine.
